Leonard Cohen - First We Take Manhattan (Sta linn edit)

My man Jad over at the bigstereo blog just posted this little edit I did of the classic Leonard Cohen song "First we take manhattan". He also found this cool photo of the man somewhere.

Head on over to download the mp3

The original song is amazing, but the 1980's production style does it a disservice in my opinion. The drums are way too soft and the vocals are cranked to 11. As a DJ that makes it pretty tough to spin. So, I broke out my Linn-drum 9000 samples and went through the entire track, layering the original Linn hits with some tougher, bassier, tape-saturated samples. That, along with some "studio magic" really brings out the clubbiness that was hiding in the original all along. Small changes, but it changes the mood and the overall mix just enough. Throw on the members-only and hit the disco, kids, Lenny's back.
